Hi, I'm Sue Jergens of Kai Photography
Growing up, I was a really shy kid. I struggled to see my beauty as many of us do and what I found in photography has helped me to show how everyone is beautiful. Photography has been a source of inspiration and a sense of connection to people and places that have left a lasting imprint on my soul.
Throughout the years, technology has changed, styles of photography have changed but one thing that has never changed but instead grows stronger is my passion for capturing the essence of the moment, the timelessness of a smile and the beauty of something as simple as a flower petal.
I love to photograph High School Seniors, Families, Children, Pets and Branding/Personal Concepts. I am also quite passionate about travel and gardening. I am a true wanderluster at heart.
I am truly blessed and grateful for this wonderful life and I never take it for granted. I cherish my family, my husband Paul of 24 years, our two sons Eric (21) and Ryan (20) and our faithful Golden, Cody.
Thank you so much for checking out my site. Sue
The business name "Kai Photography" came to me while sitting on a beach in Hawaii. I started looking up Hawaiian names and came across "Kai" which means "Ocean." If there is one place I could spend the rest of my life at, it would be near water.
I was also surprised how I could relate to the many meanings of “Kai” from different cultures.
These meanings describe the person I am and also are a few of my favorite things-
Old Latin- “happy”
and last in Chinese “start"
As I was thinking about rebranding my business (previously Susan Jergens Photography) I thought this name was perfect.
What equipment do I use?
I have a Nikon D810 camera and my film camera (Nikon F100) for travel. I actually started my business with this same camera !! and had used a medium format film camera back then.
My lenses include: Nikon 50mm f/1.4, Nikon 85 mm f/1.4, Sigma Art 35mm f/1.4, Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8, Sigma 50mm macro f/ 3.4 and a Sigma 50-100mm f/1.8. I also use Profoto and Westcott lights. I love natural light photography but sometimes you need to add light. Some pretty awesome stuff!!!
How long have I been a photographer?
It all started with my son Eric, when he was a baby and has continued all throughout my 30's 40's and now into my 50's!! (I swear I don't act my age)
Do I do photograph weddings?
I have photographed over 60 weddings throughout my photo journey. I will take on a few smaller weddings every year but I don't advertise, its mostly word of mouth. If you want to see some of my previous work send me a note.
